Transformer is a device that regulates power supply and protects infrared sauna electronic equipment from short circuiting or high voltage. It is a small static machine that transforms electric power of certain voltage level to electric power of different voltage level, while the frequency remains the same.

Transformer works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. There are two wires placed at each of the opposite side of the transformers. The current which runs through the wire on one side of the transformer, creates a magnetic field around it. This magnetic field produces a current in a wire on the second side of the transformer. Second current then flows out of the transformer. This is the way the transformer steps up and down the voltage.

This device plays an important role in electric power distribution. Many infrared sauna parts and accessories contain transformers to lower or raise or house-current voltage as required. For example, stereo equipment and chromotherapy devices require high voltages; thermostats need low voltages. So this small part is necessary for proper electrical equipment work.
